Treatment for Neuropathy

If you notice signs of neuropathy, it’s important to seek treatment right away!

Peripheral neuropathy can potentially lead to amputations especially when related to diabetes. When you see a doctor or physical therapist early on, you can better manage your symptoms and reduce your risk of developing severe complications.

Nerve pain or neuropathic pain is progressive. It can become chronic and severe affecting your psychosocial,  economic wellbeing and negatively impact your quality of life. Unfortunately, it can be resistant to treatment and can be associated with poor outcomes and poor satisfaction. As a result, the management of peripheral neuropathy can be extremely challenging for health care practitioners…if NOT caught early!

When caught in its early stages, health care practitioners can often provide treatment to help regenerate the nerve. In later stages, the peripheral nerves may actually die off resulting in permanent nerve damage. Doctors recommend a combination of treatments for their patients with neuropathy such as medication and physical therapy to assist in managing your pain, encouraging regeneration of your peripheral nerves and  strengthening for your limbs to prevent deconditioning and further injuries. Custom designed splints, braces or foot orthotics can provide stability and make it easier and safer for you to get around and participate in activities.

A scientific review article was published in 2021 entitled Neuropathic Pain and Rehabilitation: A Systematic Review of International Guidelines.

The consensus in the systematic review was a multidisciplinary approach to neuropathic pain combining both medicine and rehabilitative interventions such as physical therapy which would act on different targets and provide better therapeutic success than single interventions alone. Unfortunately, there is not a single panacea intervention so the take away from this article is to apply all the known therapeutic interventions in a consistent and comprehensive manner on a daily basis to maximize the therapeutic effect.

And that is exactly what we have done with our Nerve Revitalizer System!
