Yes… But sparingly!
Although we have moved away from the old R.I.C.E acronym and shifted towards a P.E.A.C.E. and L.O.V.E. approach (learn about that
here:https://orthowellpt.com/orthowell-is-p-e-a-c-e-l-o-v-e/ we wanted to clarify that ice can still be a beneficial part of your pain management routine.
As discussed in previous posts, heat is ideal for increasing blood flow and therefore promoting healing of the tissue. But it is important to note that icing is still beneficial in certain situations such as treating initial inflammation, during acute flare ups, and for the purpose of numbing pain. Just remember that while “ice feels nice” in times of pain, heat is what is going to have the most beneficial effect on healing!
