Can physical therapy treat tinnitus?

Tinnitus is the perception of whistling or ringing in one or both of your ear channels. There is research to connect neck pain and cervical problems to tinnitus. Therefore, can physical therapy be used to treat this?

A study was conducted to explore the effects of cervical spine treatment and TMJ treatment. Both treatments resulted with positive effects on tinnitus. “These studies show positive effects of cervical spine treatment (manipulations, exercises, trigger-point treatment) on tinnitus severity.”

If you are experiencing tinnitus it may be beneficial to talk to your doctor about the possibility of seeking treatment through physical therapy.
